The Scotland Town Hall Renovation Building Committee members and the Scotland Board of Selectman want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work completed by former chairperson, Gary Greenberg. As the residents know, Scotland Town Hall is in dire need of renovation. Many deficiencies were discovered in 2009 when a Conditions Assessment identified structural problems in the foundation and the roof, a lack of access for people with disabilities, an inefficient heating system, inadequate electrical and information technology infrastructure, and lack of compliance with many building and fire codes. Since that time, minimal repairs have been completed, leaving the building still in need of major renovations. Through Gary’s leadership, the town of Scotland has been awarded millions of dollars in state and federal grant funds to allow for the necessary restoration of our Scotland Town Hall building. Not only did Gary secure funding while serving as Scotland’s First Selectman, but he also continued to lead the renovation project after his role of First Selectman came to an end. Ultimately, due to unforeseen circumstances Gary felt it would be better for the Town to resign from his positions, both as Chairperson of the committee and as Scotland’s Director of Special Projects. Gary has been an integral part of this project from the start and his knowledge, dedication, and expertise will be missed. The Scotland Town Hall Renovation Building Committee thanks Gary Greenberg for his time, energy and passion in restoring the building that has served Scotland’s residents in many capacities (schoolhouse, library, and town hall) for the past 185 years.
