The Democratic Town Committee will be holding a public forum on Thursday, August 10 at 7 pm at the firehouse. The DTC has asked board and commission chairs to provide information on the issues they face, and they have asked me to give an overview of the town's current fiscal condition, as well as updates on ongoing programs.
As you may know, this year's election will feature something we haven't seen here in a long time: a contested election for First Selectman. It is possible that we will have three candidates for the position, and the DTC has invited all potential candidates to participate in the event. If they do, this will be your first opportunity to hear how they plan to address the topics raised in the discussion. I hope it will not be the last, as we have many issues to discuss, some of which threaten our long-term viability as a town.
The forum will also provide for public discussion, with both the officeholders and the candidates who participate. Please consider attending and letting your voice be heard.
