The Region 11 referendum is today from noon to 8 pm. Voters should be aware that while the revised budget was reduced by only $16,000 (out of about $6.5 million), Region 11 will be returning to the towns most of the $463,000 surplus it accumulated in the 2019-20 school year. Scotland's share of this refund, which is required by state law, will be more than $165,000. In the future, all surpluses will be handled in accordance with the law.
At its next meeting, the Board of Selectmen will determine what to do with these funds and other unexpected revenues. Options include a reduction in taxes. The meeting is 6/9 at 7 pm.
