H.R. 672 – To establish new ZIP Codes for certain communities, and for other purposes.
  1. This is a new bipartisan bill introduced by Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida.
  2. The bill (attached) mandates the USPS designates unique ZIP Codes for 14 communities across the country, including Scotland, Connecticut.
  3. Congressman Courtney is an original cosponsor and will strongly advocate for this legislation. Tying Scotland’s ZIP Code mandate to a larger package of communities rather than as a standalone bill will increase its chance of gaining momentum in Congress, as was the case with the previous ZIP Code package (H.R. 8753) that passed the House last December.
  4. We have forwarded H.R. 672 to the House Committee on Oversight and Governmental Reform, which marked up the previous ZIP Code package, encouraging them to markup H.R. 672 as soon as possible.
  5. The introducer of H.R. 672, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, is working with a Republican Senator to introduce a mirrored version of the legislation in the Senate. Rep. Courtney plans to distribute a press statement on the legislation once the bill is introduced in both the House and the Senate, as requested by Rep. Diaz-Balart’s Office, and we’ll follow up with you before that happens.
  6. Rep. Courtney will otherwise continue to pursue all opportunities to move Scotland through the legislative process, and we will keep you posted with any updates.
