Planning & Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission creates the Plan of Conservation and Development, a document that guides the development of land in the town, and the rules that enforce the plan. Zoning review is required for most development, including building alterations as well as new construction. It is also required for changes in the use of property, such as a new home occupation, or in the boundaries of property, as occurs in subdivision. Many proposed changes can be approved by the zoning enforcement officer, who can also advise on the necessity of commission review. For more information, see the Building Department FAQ.

From time to time the PZC changes the zoning or subdivision regulations or the POCD. Notice is given and hearings are held. In addition, any citizen can petition at any time for a change in the zoning or subdivision regulations.
